England's youngest opera star weds BBC Baritone at London register office. Miss Janet Hamilton Smith, the youngest English opera star and popular radio soprano, was married quietly at Kensington register office, to Mr Gilbert Bailey, the BBC baritone and originator of the wireless Old Time Singers. After the ceremony, the bride, who is 26 years of age, had to leave her bridegroom to rehearse for 'Faust', in which she plays Marguerita, at the Royal Albert Hall.
