Japanese naval guns start huge fires at Pootung, Shanghai. Sirius fires were started on Pooting Point, on the bank of the Whangpoo River opposite Shanghai proper, by gunfire from Japanese warships attempting to silence Chinese batteries. Despite the strafing by the Japanese, however, latest reports show that the Chinese have succeeded in bringing up new batteries, and that Prince Hiroyoshi Fushimi, a member of the Imperial Japanese family and commander of the Japanese third destroyer Flotilla, was wounded in his ship during an in artillery duel. Photo shows, a column dense smoke rising from huge fires started on Pootung Point by Japanese naval guns. 27 September 1937
