Miss Eileen Joyce playing the piano given to her as a wedding present by her fiance Mr Douglas Legh Barratt. Miss Joyce who made her first appearance in a concert at the age of nine, lived for six years in a hut in the backwoods where water supplies had to be brought 20 miles. After appearing in the concert she came under the notice of Backhaus and percy Grainer and funds are raised to send her to Leipzig to study. 14 September 1937.
