This picture, just received in London from Shanghai, shows a ghastly scenes in the Great World, Shanghai amusement centre, in which 800 people were killed during an air raid. Terrible carnage and ruin was brought into the city by the continuous aerial and artillery bombardment as the Japanese slowly closed in. Mutilated bodies were strewn everywhere in the park. Barbed wire barricades thrown across Museum Road Bridge dividing the Hongkew district from the central portion of the International Settlement of Shanghai. Chinese refugees are show attempting to enter the street but they were turned back. The British Westleyan Union Church is seen across the bridge. 2 September 1937
