From a little inn in the quaint Essex village of Bardfield, old craftsmen and typical local characters are to broadcast to America an impression of English country life as it has been for centuries. In the taproom of the " Spread Eagle" the local wart-healer, "Uppy", two professional thatchers and Professor Harold Laski will speak into the microphone and "mine host", Mr Harry Barnes, will close the program with "Last Orders" and "Time, gentleman, please". "Uppy" (Charles Shephard Andrews) the local "wart-healer" photographed over his garden gate. "Uppy" can cure warts within a few weeks without even seeing his patient. The sufferer is asked only to send the Christian name and "Uppy" does the rest. He has had many letters from people he has cured. 10 July 1937
