Red Max trial opens in Paris - witnesses from London called. Amazing revelations of Soho drama. With several witnesses from London, including Sir Bernard Spilsbury, the trial of Roger Vernon and his 25-year-old mistress, Suzanne Bertron, for the murder of "Red Max" Kassel opened in Paris. Kassel, notorious figure of the Paris and London underworlds, was found riddled with bullets beneath a hedge at St Albans in January last year. The indictment, describing incidents leading to the death of Kassel, alleges a violent quarrel in a Soho (London) flat between Kassel and Vernon, which ended in the shooting. Disposal of the body is also described. Vernon was formerly a convict on Devil's Island, but escaped. Photo shows: Charles Villaret (left), arriving at Palais de Justice with an English jurnalist to attend the trial today (Wednesday). Mr Villaret is a witness who travelled from London, leaving the Paris office of Maitre J. C. Legrand, defence counsel. 28 April 1937
