Lawrence Tibbett arrives. Opera singer's first visit to England. Lawrence Tibbett, baritone of the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, and a well-known film actor, arrived at Southampton on the "Bremen" to pay his first visit to England. Tibbett makes his debut at Covent Garden on May 14 as Scarpia in "Tosca" and later in the season will create the title role in "Don Juan de Manara" , a new opera by Eugene Goossens and Arnold Bennett.
