Appointed new chief of the Ogpo. After two secret six-hour conferences in the Kremlin, Joseph Stalin, the Soviet dictator, ordered the control of the Ogpu to be placed in the hands of Marshal Alexander Ilyich Yegorov of the Soviet Army, with lesser powers in the hands of the Public-Prosecutor Vishinsky and Yeshov who formerly had supreme command. Stalin is stated to have been pressed to this decision by a War Minister Voroshilov and the Army chiefs who had been angered by the numerous arrests of Army men. It is believed that Stalin has now finally broken the power of the and has made the Army supreme.
