Major prepares for Johannesburg Air Race. With less then a fortnight to the start of the race, leading British airmen are preparing at Gravesend Airport, Kent for the Schlesinger African Air Race to Johannesburg in connection with the British Empire Exhibition. Each pilot is allowed five days to cover the 6200 miles course from Portsmouth. Prizes in the race total 瞿14,000 and had been presented by Mr. I. R. Schlesinger, the South African philanthropist. 14 of Britain's fast machines have been entered and will leave Portsmouth on September 29th for South Africa. Photo shows: Mr. Bert ?
