Two wings of country mansion destroyed by fire . Mr Edward Faulkner , the head gardner , is the hero of a fire which destroyed two wings of Landhurst , a large country house occupied by Mr and Mrs Godfrey Williams at Hartfield , Sussex . Mr Faulkner saved the life of Police constable Ducie , who was overcome by smoke when searching the blazing servants quarters . Only a second after Mr Faulkner had dragged the officer through the door , the roof collapsed and the whole of that part of the building became a furnace .
