Air Ministry Officials Inspect Wreckage Of Plane In Which Four Were Killed . Four occupants of the Imperial Airways liner Vellox were reported killed when the plane crashed into the side of a house in Sandy Lane , Wallington , Surrey , when on its way to Paris in the early hours of the morning , the plane burst into flames . Aboard the machine were Captain J . Orr ; Captain Miles Ferguson; and Wireless Operators Arbuckle and Dear . The Vellox was a twin - engine biplane and was being used on an experimental night air freight service between London and Paris .
