Public prosecutor attends hearing of Hauptmann ' s final appeal . Fourteen months after he had been condemned to death for the kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh baby and despite numerous appeals and reprieves , Bruno Richard Hauptmann was electocuted at the New Jersey State Prison , Trenton , New Jersey . He went to his death calmly , making only a short statement in which he again declared his innocence .
