King George of Greece attended the anniversary celebrations of the Battle of Missolonghi , in which 112 years , the Greek fought for their independence . Lord Byron , the great English poet who exercised immense influence upon European thought during the early part of the 19 century , travelled from England to Missolonghi to help the Greeks . He died at Missolonghi two years before the Turks and Egyptians triumphed over the Greek soldiers . After the service King George visited the house where the poet lived .
