Mrs Hauptmann visits condemned man in Gaol . Lindbergh kidnapper granted another respite . As the time fixed for her husband ' s execution drew near , Mrs Bruno Bichard Hauptmann , wife of the man convicted for the kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh baby , visited Hauptmann in Gaol at Trenton , New Jersey . The execution has again been postponed however . Just as Hauptmann prepared to leave his cell for the death chamber a further respite for 48 hours was announced so that the jury could consider an interesting new angle .
