The road from Adigrat to Makale , the next objective of the Italian army , in the most difficult grounds the invaders have yet encountered . The big transport lorries which are moving up men and supplies have to be steered round 1500 hairpin bends . The road , little more than a track only permits one way traffic , and any vehicle which falls foul of one of the many hazardous is abandoned , for it is useless to attempt to put it back on the road .
