Sir Philip Sassoon inaugurates dwarf radio for safer flying at Lympne . Sir Philip Sassoon , Under Secretary of State for Air , accompanied by Colonel Shelmerdine , Director of Civil Aviation and representatives of foreign governments , officially inaugurated a wireless station that works on the shortest wave length ever used commercially at Lympne Aerodrome , Kent . The station will operate on a wave length of eight inches and will be used as a high efficiency radio link across the Channel to help Continental air services . Another station has been built at St Inglevert , France to connect up with Lympne .
