Miss Hannah Locke of Philadelphia , the daughter of Mrs Robert W Locke , who is among the American girls to be presented at Court by Mrs Ray Atherton , wife of the American Charge d ' Affaires . She is photographed in her gown before leaving to attend the first Court presentation at which she made her bow to the Queen . The King was unable to be present on account of rheumatism . Miss Locke ' s gown was of white lace trimmed with a dull blue taffeta belt and shoulder straps , worn with a train of white lace . Her bouquet was of white orchids and lilies of the valley . 11 May 1933
