The changing face of Rome . Under Mussolini ' s iron regime many public improvements are being carried out in Rome ancient buildings , renovated and public gardens laid out . A view of some of the improvements from the air showing the new Tibur bridge with the ruins of the old Ponte Rotto , the bridge immortalised by Horatio Cocles , the legendary Roman hero of Lord Macaulay ' s lays , who gloriously held this bridge with two comrades against the Etruscan Army in the sixth century until the citizens cut it adrift and so saved Rome . On the left is the Temple of Vesta , the Goddess of the Hearth and on right the Temple of the Fortuna Virile . In the background is the Palatine Bridge . 27 April 1932
