Fighting the locust plague in London . London has become the international in the war against against locusts whose present invasion of Africa and Asia is estimated to have caused damage amounting to more than seven million pounds with an additional wastage of five and a half million working days . At the Natural history museam in London a a special colony of locusts , brought specially from Africa is being bred for experimental purposes , the first colony established in this country . They are living in conditions reproduced as nearly as possible to their natural condition in the African desert , in a glass case provided with desert sand and glasses . The African sun is presented by a powerful electric lamp .The work is in the charge of Mr B P Uvarov . Mr B P Uvarov at the Natural History Museam with his case of species , with which he is conducting experiments to fight the locust plague . 19 April 1932 .
