Germany ' s first all motoringroad opened . Germany ' s first highway reserved for the exclusive use of motorists was opened for traffic this weekend between Cologne and the University city of Bonn . The road is twelve miles long and fifty feet wide . The only curves are gentle variations from the straight , permitting an unobstructed view many hundreds of yards ahead . At each end there is a roundabout . The road has been built to make a speed of eighty miles an hour perfectly safe , and is provided with a white safety line down the entire length . There are no intersecting roads , though at one point , about midway between the cities , access can be obtained to the roadway by an ingenious arrangement , whereby traffic from the side road flows easily and safely into the main stream of cars .
