Bishop of Norwich and three thousand bellringers hear world ' s largest carillon of bells made in England for University of Chicago . The Bishop of Norwich , who brought the sensational charges against the morality of the Rev Harold Davidson , rector of Stiffkey , Norfolk , which are now occupying the attention of the Consistory Court at Westminster , was among the prominent people who visited the factory of Gillett and Johnstone at Croydon to hear the second largest carillon of bells in the world , which have just been made for the chapel of the University of Chicago . The largest of the bells weighs 17 tons and the 72 bells which compose the carillon and their framework weigh 189 tons . This is the largest set of bells ever seen in one foundry . Three thousand bell ringers from all over the country came to London to hear the bells . The great crowd of personalities and bell ringers around the carillon .
