Srirangapatna (also: Shrirangapattana or Seringapatam); Karnataka; India; Daria Daulat Bagh (or Darya Daulat Bagh) summer palace (built 1784 under Tipu Sultan).Panorama; upper right section:The Nizam of Hyderabad's procession. The Nizam did not; in fact; participate in the Battle of Pollilur. He was notorious for switching sides; in the 1st Anglo Mysore War and in the last two Anglo-Mysore wars he allied with the British. His procession; unlike the other two; moves from right to left; his flag shown held by a rider on an elephant leading the way. The Nizam is shown richly attired; on a horse; holding a rose in the Deccani Moghul tradition. Directly below can be seen a cow and a pig in miniature form; the former symbolising the Nizam's loyalty to Haidar Ali and Tipu Sultan; the latter signifying the Nizam as a traitor. Late 18th/19th century.Wall fresco; tempera over lime plaster.Panoramic created by Sid Gamage.Photo by Benoy Behl courtesy of Archaeological Survey of India.
