Srirangapatna (also: Shrirangapattana or Seringapatam); Karnataka; India; Daria Daulat Bagh (or Darya Daulat Bagh) summer palace (built 1784 under Tipu Sultan).Panorama; upper left section:Haidar Ali's procession to the Battle of Pollilur showing six contingents of foot soldiers and three of cavalry; together with drummers and trumpet players; elephants and camels. Haidar is seated in an elephant howdah; clean shaven; in a white kameez. He holds a rose in the Deccani Mughal tradition. He is greeted by a figure sometimes identified as Mir Sadiq. The Royal Flag bearers lead the procession on elephants; accompanied by armed camel riders. The flags show both the sun motif and Tipu's iconic tiger stripes. This may reflect the new status quo at the date of the actual painting after Haidar's death when Tipu was Sultan.Late 18th/19th century.Wall fresco; tempera over lime plaster.Panoramic created by Sid Gamage.Photo by Benoy Behl courtesy of Archaeological Survey of India.
