Costume of Pervenche; nouveau riche wife of a merchant. She wears a Primerose headdress of fanchon bonnet; Egyptian cameo and plumes; a spencer jacket of yellow satin; over a dress of silk and satin. She holds a pair of glasses on a chain. Handcoloured etching by Auguste Etienne Guillaumot Jr. from Costumes of the Directory; Rouquette; Paris; 1875. The etchings were made from designs by Eugene Lacoste and Draner after prints of the era 1795-99. The costumes are from theatre productions Merveilleuses and Pres Saint-Gervais by Victorien Sardou.
