Scotland - Edinburgh city by night - Forth Road Bridge at dusk - The Forth Road Bridge was opened on 4th September 1964 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth accompanied by Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh. At that time it was the largest suspension bridge in Europe, fourth largest in the world, with a main span of 1005m and overall length of 2.5km. The opening brought to an end the 800 year history of a ferry-boat service across the river at Queensferry. ?TopFoto / Woodmansterne
