Greshnevo stayed on the highway between Yaroslavl and Kostroam. Over this road the Tzarist government would send its business and was sentenced to penal servitude in Siberia. The people say the road was "worn out by chains". Nekrasov' impressions of his meetings with these prisoners are reflected in many of his poems. This painting by Valery Ivanovich Jacobi "The Prisoners Rest" is in the State Tretyakoc Art Gallery. 1861 Supplied By: SCRSS - Society for Co-operation in Russian & Soviet Studies
