The Latvian Academy of Sciences, whose foundation meant recognition of the achievements of the Latvian scientists, is marking its first anniversary. Within a short time the Academy has become a big centre of science of the young Soviet Baltic Republic of Latvia. Among its members are well-known physician P Stradyn and microbiologist A Kirchenstein, who is the President of the Supreme Soviet of the Latvian Republic. Member of the Academy P Leinsh, a prominent authority in zoology and hygiene of animals has been elected President of the Academy.
