A Renaissance doorway leads to the Hill of Knowledge. A Florentine miniature of the fifteenth century. Up a hill are seated the Seven Liberal Arts, each represented by a maiden. At the summit above St Augustine is Theology pointing upwards to God in the sky. The Arts, Liberal and Mechanical, formed an integral part of the scholastic system with philosphy (the theology of scholasticism) enthroned, with the abstract disciplines immediately below - grammar, dialectic, rhetoric, geometry, arithmetic, astronomy and music. The Arts Mechanical were likewise limited to the mystic number seven - weaving, building, navigation, agriculture, hunting, medicine and drama
