John Baylor (1705-1772) of Newmarket, Caroline County, made it a matter of urgent priority to increase the size and stoutness of Virginia horses, which were small and short of stamina owing to their Indian (quarter-horse) blood. He therefore imported Fear-nought in 1764, by the Godolphin Arabian's son Regulus, who as a King's Plater had won four-mile heats under 168 lb. This powerful horse, nearly 16 hands, achieved all that Baylor hoped. The History of Horse Racing by Roger Longrigg, page 109.
