Governor Samuel Ogle (1694-1752)) is said to be descended from an ancient and noble Northumbrian family. His relationship with Henry VII's Master of Horse (see p.29) is speculative. He was three times Governor of Maryland, to which post he was appointed by Lord Baltimore. After he turned from Spanish 'Barbs' to thoroughbreds he travelled regularly to England, bringing back, among others, Spark, a present from Lord Baltimore to whom he had been given by Frederick Prince of Wales.
