Les Halles at night in one of the meat pavilions devoted to beef where all the aisles of fresh carcasses were the same. These beef carcasses were the largest of all the meat. Only the "forts des Halles" - the meat porters of Les Halles - were strong enough to lift these large carcasses. The carcasses are suspended from sturdy hooks on the meat hanging rails under brilliant floodlighting. Pavillon de la viande, Quartier des Halles, 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1960s.
