Christmastime in Les Halles on a damp morning in winter on the day of a flower market, looking through the entrance controlled by a gardien who is the tall man standing on the right. The gardien is controlling the crowds. Photographer Harold Chapman recalls that he was outside the fenced off entrance and was looking through at the Baltard pavilion where customers were coming out with their wrapped flowers... "You can't go out with unwrapped flowers, that's what the police look for - you'd be arrested for stealing flowers." A nun is leaving carrying her purchases which are wrapped up. On the left is a noticeboard with the market regulations and Christmas opening times. Rue Berger, Quartier des Halles, 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1960s.
