Les Halles in the morning. Photographer Harold Chapman recalls... "Outside the meat storage house in the open is the meat van. In the background one porter is pushing a barrow with a small carcass on top. In the foreground a 'fort' is struggling with an enormous load of carcasses in a barrow where the 'fort' in the van is waiting to help him to hang it inside. Next to the lorry is a cool unit." The elite "Forts des Halles" had a 900 year old tradition of working in the market. Opposite the cafe Au Pied de Cochon, Rue Rambuteau, Quartier des Halles, 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1960s.
