Les Halles in the morning. A nun wearing a habit with a guimpe hurries along with her provisions in two heavy bags on her way back to the convent. She is travelling west, passing a rubbish train packed with crushed up empty boxes and all the debris of the morning market. It is a train of rubbish wagons all connected together destined for the barges on the Seine. The open wagons are piled high with items, some quite bulky such as the sacks filled with sweepings.
