Les Halles in the morning at around 8 o'clock in Rue Rambuteau opposite the entrance to one of the covered through roads that link the Baltard pavilions. A buyer is appraising the freshness of a box of leafy greens. Two green vegetable sellers are standing at their street market stall. A stack of empty wooden crates will be taken away to be reused. Market-goers are walking along the street. The street market in the Carreau des Halles will shortly be ending for the day. The fresh produce had to be sold by 7 o'clock in the morning or else cleared away and removed by 8 o'clock by the authorities in order to allow the free circulation of traffic in the roads. But in the winter the time was extended by an hour to 9 o'clock. Le Carreau des Halles, Quartier des Halles, 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1960s.
