Les Halles in the morning when the central market was closed. Traffic regulations meant that the circulation of large goods vehicles was prohibited at the weekend. The market has been well swept and cleaned up and there is no activity to disturb the peace and calm for an early Sunday morning walk. A couple are strolling along a wide pavement past billboards attached to Pavillon 7 - Baltard pavilion number 7 - which was for fruit, vegetables and cut flowers. On the facade of the pavilion there is a large advertising panel for the highly successful Port-Salut cheese and looking somewhat out of place above the cheese is another panel with a jaunty poster promoting the Cabaret Jockey in Montparnasse. During the night hours of the market, the pavement would be full of the bustle of stalls that were spilling out into the streets surrounding the pavilions, known as "le carreau forain." Quartier des Halles, 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1960s.
