A view in daytime through the cavernous cast iron frame of one of Baltard's pavilions when the covered food market of les Halles had ceased activity during the day. After the sales were finished, all the streets of Les Halles were cleaned and washed and all the rubbish was cleared away in an hour. The through road is still glistening from being cleaned and washed. The twelve pavilions of Victor Baltard were commissioned during the Second Empire by Napoleon III and were built between 1853 and 1870. The pavilions were constructed of iron, wood and glass. 1er arrondissement, Right Bank, Paris, France, circa 1960s.
