Ali Baba the shopkeeper outside his shop in the dimly lit Rue de la Huchette. At night the crates outside the shop would be taken inside to avoid pilfering. From 9 Rue Git-le-Coeur going across the rue de l'Hirondelle and a few yards across Boulevard Saint-Michel and the inhabitants of the Beat Hotel arrived at Ali Baba in Rue de la Huchette. It was a general food and drink shop which stayed open well into the early hours of the morning and was a favourite haunt for the Beats and other inhabitants of the Beat Hotel to shop in and buy a late night meal. One could buy a slice of chakchouka and other delicious North African foods and also kitchen utensils and items for cooking such as a Turkish coffee maker. 22 Rue de la Huchette, 5e arrondissement, Left Bank, Paris, France, 1960.
