During 1951-3 Air Force Captain Edward J. Ruppelt (1923-1960) was head of Project Blue Book which investigated UFO reports on behalf of the US Air Force. While Ruppelt was in charge they analysed more than 4,500 sightings, and in 1956 Ruppelt published a book, The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects.
