Burgrain; Germany; detail showing skull of St. Albertus over gravestone. The relic to the small town near Isen in the early 18th century as a presumed skeleton of a martyr from the Roman Catacombs. It was decorated by a local nun. It is set into the predella of a side altar; and the display includes a gravestone which does not appear to be authentic; but rather seems to mimic the look of a supposed original Roman-era funerary inscription; seen here. If the inscription is to be trusted; the skeleton is of an 鈥楢lberto' who was martyred in 148AD. Photo 2012.
