Rot an der Rot; Germany; shrine of St. Aurelius Renatus in side altar. The former Norbertine monastery church acquired four skeletons of presumed martyrs from the Roman Catacombs. Among them was the only pair identified as husband and wife; Aurelius Renatus and Domitia. The identification was based on words 鈥楢urelii Conjux' on the latter's gravestone. The wax faces created over the skulls date to the early 20th century; when the entire set of relics received such treatment to better hide their skeletal nature. Photo 2012.
