Kisslegg; Germany; St. Severinus. One of four skeletons of presumed martyrs acquired by the town's former convent church. Severinus is decorated and displayed almost identically to St. Clemens; who is placed on the opposite side of the nave. The detail shows the wax face that was created over the skull. The rest of the body was displayed as bone; but the wax face was intended to give the relic a more lifelike appearance. Such prosthetic faces were particularly popular in certain areas of Bavaria and Swabia. Photo 2012.
