Cologne; Germany; St. Ursula; altar. One of the largest collection of relics is found at the Basilica of St. Ursula. An old Roman-era necropolis was identified as the remains of Ursula and 10000 virgins martyred in her company; and formed the basis for a reliquary chapel; the Golden Chamber (Golden Kammer or Goldenekammer). Seen here; the upper walls of the chapel are decorated with a mosaic in bones; which wraps around the chapel walls. The shelves hold numerous reliquaries. Photo 2012.
