Sursee; Switzerland; skull detail of decoration on bones. The relic of a presumed martyr from the Roman Catacombs arrived in the city's church of St. Georg in the 1760s. It is displayed and decorated in a nearly identical way to the relic of St. Irenaus; which arrived the previous century and became one of the city's patrons. Neither are fully articulated; and both are placed in shrines in predellas of altars on either side the high altar. This decoration shows the meticulous decoration on the individual bones; which are wrapped in a thin gauze. Photo 2012.
