La Paz; Bolivia; Fiesta de las 補titas; skulls in shrines. The annual celebration is held on 8 November; to commemorate and thank the 馻titas; which are skulls kept in shrines at home. The largest celebration is at the Cementerio General. This photo was taken on the cemetery grounds during the afternoon of the Fiesta. It shows a pair of enshrined skulls. The knit hats and sunglasses here are common; to protect skulls from cold and glare. Wadded cotton in the eyes is also common; as symbolic eyes. The cigarettes in their jaws are a common form of offering. Photo 2009.
