A curious bed scene excavated in Resina. A young man lies on a bed drinking wine from a horn or Rhyton; a woman wears a fine peplos dress; while a slave enters with a box of perfume. On the table are vases of offerings to the gods Jupiter; Mercury and the Graces; and a pierced vessel to hold snow to chill wine. Copperplate engraved by Tommaso Piroli from his own 鈥楢ntichita di Ercolano' (Antiquities of Herculaneum); Rome; 1789. Italian artist and engraver Piroli (1752-1824) published six volumes between 1789 and 1807 documenting the murals and bronzes found in Heraculaneum and Pompeii.
