Nissen hut construction. Nissen hut under construction during the Second World War at an airfield in the UK that was to be used by US Army Air Forces (the predecessor of the United States Air Force). These airfield facilities were built and supplied under the Reciprocal Aid Program between the USA and the UK. The USA entered World War II in December 1941. Nissen huts are prefabricated structures consisting of a semi-cylindrical arch of corrugated steel. This official British war photograph dates from February 1943.
