The pharmaceutical company Burroughs; Wellcome & Co. was founded by the pharmacists Silas Burroughs;1846 - 1895 and Henry Solomon Wellcome; 1853 - 1936in 1889 in Snow Hill; London.Needing to expand; the company purchased the Pheonix Paper Mills site at Dartford and used Thames barges for transport.
