Seated figure of the goddess Sekhmet from the tomb of Tutankhamun. Depicted as a woman with the head of a lioness; the goddess was daughter to Ra; wife to Ptah and mother to Nefertem. As a lioness she takes the attributes of dangerous power but also of maternal instict. Country of Origin: Egypt. Culture: Ancient Egyptian. Period / Date: New Kingdom; 18th Dynasty c1336 - 1327 BC.
