'The Marcomanni lived between the Rhine and the Danube and joined forces with the Quadi of Moravia to make incursions [against the Romans]. The Marcomanni (5) wears a checkered tunic; and his shield is also checkered. The crown on his head could come from the tradition of several ancient peoples to wear crowns before going into battle.'鈥楾he Quadi (6) is entirely covered in armour; even to his gauntlets. It's worth noticing that this suit of armour appeared in a backward era.'
